THE LAST

( OOD-BYE

I've waited late 'till you were gone and I've roamed the empty halls*
In searching for a memory I'm backed against a wall .

See, I'm looking for a song to sing and I want to sing it all.
Maybe that's the problem, you just can't say it alL

I've looked inside the classrooms to see what I can find, to see if there's a memory that
someone's left behind.

But I guess you can f t store happy times inside an empty room, and I guess you just can't find
the words to fill an empty tune .

Are memories enough, when all the learnings done?

How can we portray these times when we were one ?

Tomorrow we will see the platform shining in the sun .

And tomorrow, we'll take our last goodbye.

My friends all I can give you is just what 1 can feel .

1 ' ve looked a round for answers , but none of them are real .

So I've chosen to believe in our times at R.H.S.

And these I'll take with me, 'cause I know that they're the best*

And I'll take with me the part of you that you will choose to give .
For memories are times when we have loved and we have lived ,

Are memories enough when all the learning's done . How can we portray these times
we've stood as one?

Tomorrow we will see the platform shining in the sun.
And tomorrow, we'll take our last goodbye

You know I'm really scared to face up to all my dreams, Specially if the world out
there's as bad as it all seems.

But now my song is over, and I'll wipe away the tear.

That the thought of leaving R,H*S. has brought so very near*

Oh class of nineteen seventy-nine, to me it's very clear, there ain't much more to
living then goes on now right here

Are memories enough w T hen all the learnings done , how can we portray these times
when we were one .

Tomorrow we will see the platform shining in the sun .
And tomorrow, we'll take our last goodbye R,H,S

Class of nineteen- seventy -nine . We're the best!

The 1978 Raider Football team finished the sea-
son with an overall record of 7-2, and a S,V«L.
record of 4- 1 to finish in a tie for first place with
Brattleboro and M.S.J.

The high point of the season was the exciting 14-
6, come -from -behind victory over Brattleboro in
the fiist game ever played on new Alumni Field ,
under our new lights. This was also the first Rutland

team to beat Glens Falls at Glens Falls .

The season ended on a disappointing note when
the Raiders lost to the Mount! es 20-15. The loss
cost the Raiders the chance to play in the state
championship game * But the boys can be proud of
the tremendous improvement they made , and the
record they achieved >

With four starters gone from last year's team, and only three returning letterman, the
Raiders still wound up with a share of the CVGA1 crown. After a dismal 2-4 start, Rutland
ran off an impressive 10 game winning streak. I 'This team did everything 1 asked them
to , n said Coach Richard Alberti . ' ' They believed in me and in themselves , Overall , a
very successful year with many fond memories * * '

The 1978 Cross Country season was one of success,
rebuilding, and injury.

The girls were led by seniors Becky Wolcott, Debbie
Wolcott , Janet Alberico and junior Betsy Scott . They
repeated as Southern Vermont Champions and placed a
respectable fifth in the State Championships , without
the services of Janet Alberico and Betsy Scott* Both
girls were injured .

The boys season was a very successful one from the
standpoint of rebuilding and experience . There was not
a senior on the squad . Juniors Peter Fenn and Steve
Boudah , along with sophmore Mike Carmolli , led the
team. Newcomers who progressed rapidly were: juniors
Keith Russell, Tom Kellogg and Bobby Eddy and
f reshxnen Pete Carmolli and Matt Rushford .

1st Row: A. Crowley, 5. Garafano, B, Wolcott, L. Garafano, J. Alber-

The 1978-79 girls Indoor Track team repeated as the Vermont State
Champions and placed an excellent third in the first Girls' New England
meet. Seniors Becky Wolcott, Jan Alberico, and Steph and Lynn Garafano
led the girls, while they were supported by Joannie Chase, Mindy Heath,
Ginnie Brown , Tina Douglas , Celia Ketley and Rayrie Pollack . Many re -
cords fell as Rutland remained untouched in Vermont » Coming off their
very successful season , the girls are looking forward to a strong outdoor
season and their first State championship .

The boys, although lacking depth, m^de a strong showing in their State
Meet, Captain Peter Fenn set two state records in both the mile and two-
mile, Rick Ouelette remained undefeated in the 300 by winning in the
state meet. Mike Carmolli, Mike Laduke and Jim MuscateHo were also
strong for Rutland, Peter Fenn went on to place second in the New England
mile. Both teams showed excellent sportsmanship, determination and spirit
while continuing to dominate the Indoor season .
